Dear RUC Community,

I work for MSF (Medicines sans Frontiers) in Khayelitsha as part of a drug resistant  (DR) TB programme.

We currently have 23 children on DR TB treatment, ranging in age from 5 months to 15 years. Treatment takes from 9 months to 2 years to complete, depending on how sick the child is.

The DR treatment regimen means children have to take many medicines every day, some of which have potentially serious side effects so they have to be closely monitored with regular blood tests and ECG’s. It is a bit like being on treatment for cancer. Most of the children come from extremely poor and broken families. In some families, there are multiple members on DR TB treatment.

Our DR TB team would like to support and encourage these children  by giving them birthday presents, as well gifts to mark treatment milestones. We are therefore looking for donations of toys, clothes, books, puzzles and toiletries to be able to bless these children. If you have any items you would like to donate for a child aged between 5 months – 15 years, please DM me.

Thanks in anticipation!
