Outliers -Supporting After-School Programs

Dear Friends and Supporters of Outliers

KINDNESS SHOWS UP IN-KIND

This year, our auditors were able to include in-kind donations received and distributed by Outliers as income and expenditure in our annual financial statements. This is hugely significant as we distributed in excess of 2 million rands worth of donated goods to after-school programs in our communities last year. A special thank you to all who collaborate and partner with us to make this possible. Your contributions of COVID-19 resources (65%) and workbooks, stationery, and library books (25%) helped sustain academic support programs for thousands of students during a critical period. Together with our faithful financial supporters, we were able to invest R5.17 for every R1 donated. Pretty impressive, wouldn't you say!?

LOOKING AHEAD

For those who like numbers,

  • we are currently supporting 90 organisations

  • with more than 650 tutors

  • who run 135 after-school programs

  • together impacting in excess of 10000 students every week

  • with a team of 2 part-time staff.

We ran multiple training sessions for tutors at our host venue, Rondebosch United Church, including Tutor Training, Literacy and Numeracy Development, Mentor Training, and Career Guidance and Development. Our Governance for Fundraising module consisted of individual sessions for each program, as each organisation requires unique input in terms of their sustainability journey.

Learning losses due to COVID-19 school closures resulted in alarmingly high school drop-out rates this year. Though 350 tutors benefited from training and resources accessed through Outliers since March 2022, we would like to train and resource more tutors to provide literacy and numeracy development to aid curriculum recovery in 2023.

We look forward to your continued support to help us make this happen for each after-school program in our community, their students, and their families.

As always, we would love to hear from you. If you’d prefer to NOT receive this update and follow our regular activities via Facebook instead, do let us know.

With much gratitude for your ongoing support.
